Health Made Doable

You already know healthy habits matter.

You don’t need another lecture about eating more vegetables or exercising more. What you need is a realistic plan—and the support to make it work in real life.

At Health Made Doable, we help individuals and families build practical skills that support lifelong health. Through workshops, cooking classes, educational resources, and habit-change programs, you’ll learn how to make healthy choices fit your schedule, budget, preferences, and family life.

Whether you’re trying to improve your health, support a child with weight or metabolic health concerns, or simply feel overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice, you’re welcome here.

No blame. No shame. No perfection required.

Just small, sustainable changes that add up over time—and the confidence that comes from knowing you can actually do this.

Meet Dr. Black

When I was in kindergarten, my mom—a nurse practitioner and activist of the 1960s—asked my teacher about my favorite classroom activity. The answer? Playing in the pretend kitchen.

She was a little surprised.

Like many women of her generation, she hoped her daughters would pursue careers of their own. Little did she know that one day I’d become both a physician and someone who teaches people how to cook.

Food remained a lifelong passion—whether cooking for friends, experimenting with new recipes, or taking cooking classes while traveling abroad.

For more than 25 years, I’ve cared for children and families as a pediatrician. Along the way, I became increasingly interested in prevention—helping people stay healthy rather than simply treating disease after it develops. That journey led me to add a second board certification in Lifestyle Medicine.

Today, Health Made Doable brings together my love of medicine, cooking, and practical habit change.

My goal is simple: help people build realistic skills and routines that make healthy habits easier, more enjoyable, and sustainable for the long haul.

Mike the toy tortoise wants to know what your favorite vegetable is.

Meet Mike the Tortoise

Mike the tortoise is more than a mascot.

Like real live live tortoises, Mike loves leafy greens, vegetables, and fruit.

Tortoises are also known for their longevity, making Mike a symbol of lifelong health and disease prevention.

Most importantly, Mike reminds us that lasting change happens one small step at a time. Healthy habits aren’t built overnight—and that’s okay. Slow and steady wins the race.

And there’s one more reason for Mike’s name: he’s a nod to the MICrobiome. Just like a pet tortoise needs the right foods to thrive, the trillions of microbes living in our digestive tract do too. When we feed them well, they help support our health in ways we’re only beginning to understand.
